The Retreat
is the smallest room in the house ("A broad-minded person finds even a small space accommodating." -Chinese Proverb) and has the best view. Bathroom is shared/semi-private, with a big claw-foot tub.

Cloud 9
which we secretly refer to as the Secret’s Room, takes up the whole top floor of the house, and sleeps three; there is a queen-sized bed and a single bed (in a separate part of the room – useful if you have a child travelling with you, or you find yourself in a domestic dispute). There is a delightfully tiled bathroom en suite.

This is formerly the room that Sydney Harling Smith, the owner-before-David, made over every year in anticipation of the arrival of “The Secret”, a mysterious entity who never quite made it as far as Masset (as far as any of us know).

Douglas Coupland wrote the ending to his Generation A in The Secret’s Room.

 

The Chadwick Room
overlooks the garden and is a tribute to the memory of Florence Chadwick. When David owned an antique shop in Toronto in the 60s, he acquired a steamer trunk full of her possessions, including her passport and other personal memorabilia. This room has been decorated with her adventuresome spirit in mind. The room has a queen-sized bed, and a shared/semi-private bathroom
down a small flight of stairs.

GARDEN LEVEL
The Harbour Master’s Keep
sleeps three; it has its own kitchenette and bathroom, and overlooks the tangled English garden. One double built in “captain’s bed” and one twin bed in a separate small room overlooking the harbour. Guests can sit out under the wisteria and drink their morning coffee or a sip a glass of homemade elderberry cordial.

Pierre and Maggie (the former Canadian Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau and his wife) made this room their love nest when they visited Haida Gwaii, and stayed as David’s guests.

Garden View Suite

Recently refurbished, our only room with a king-size bed. Private entrance. Bathroom (with bath and shower) ensuite.

• Double (HMK; Cloud 9; Garden View: with bathroom en suite): $120 plus HST
• Twin (Cloud 9; HMK: two people sharing with private bathroom) $130 plus HST (3rd person extra $30)

• High Season (May 1-September 30)
• Single (Retreat; Chadwick: room with semi-private bathroom) $100 plus HST
• Single (HMK; Cloud 9; Garden View: with bathroom en suite) $110 plus HST
• Double (Retreat; Chadwick: room with semi-private bathroom) $120 plus HST
• Double (HMK; Cloud 9; Garden View: with bathroom en suite): $130 plus HST
• Twin (Cloud 9; HMK: two people sharing with private bathroom) $140 plus HST (3rd person extra $30)
  

A $40.00 credit card deposit may be required to confirm your reservation (a charge will be made on your credit card when the booking is taken). The remaining balance will be charged to the same credit card the day you arrive. For deposits, we only accept VISA and MASTERCARD. (We also accept final payment by cash or cheque.)

Tax - All rates and fees (including cancellation fees) subject to the 12% HST.

A reservation request does not constitute a reservation until we contact you to confirm a booking and your credit card deposit has been processed.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Due to our intimate size, cancellations affect us greatly Deposit and cancellation policies are generally less forgiving on Island than those of hotels or B&B’s in urban areas, as a last-minute cancellation may mean a significant loss to our somewhat vulnerable, remote island business, especially in the high season. (That said, we try to be as understanding as we possibly can be, depending on the circumstances.)

MORE THAN 30 DAYS WRITTEN NOTICE (by e-mail with delivery/read request, Fax or Mail [allow at least 2 weeks for mail to arrive from outside of Canada] prior to your arrival date) your deposit is REFUNDED, minus a processing fee of CDN $25.00 + HST.)

30 DAYS OR LESS notice prior arrival: no refund. The $40 charged to your credit card is non-refundable unless we are able to re-rent the room for ALL the cancelled days (a processing fee of CDN $25.00 + HST will apply in that case).

EARLY CHECK-OUT: No refund. The nights you have reserved are guaranteed exclusively for you. However, should we be able to rebook ALL those nights, we will be pleased to credit you back (a processing fee of CDN $25.00 + tax will apply in that case).

DELAYED ARRIVAL: No refund with the exception of cancellation due to weather (in the event of the ferry or plane not making it to the Island.) In all other circumstances, should we be able to rebook ALL those nights, we will be pleased to credit you back (a processing fee of CDN $25.00 + tax will apply in that case).

NO-SHOW OR SAME DAY CANCELLATION: No refund. However, should we be able to rebook ALL those nights, we will be pleased to credit you back (a processing fee of CDN $25.00 + tax will apply in that case).

IMPORTANT: We highly recommend that you contact your travel agent or credit card company regarding trip cancellation insurance to cover refund of accommodations costs in case of unforeseen changes to your plans (such as, but not limited to, delays, strikes, closure of air space, death in family, etc.).

Your own insurance is the only way to get a refund after the 30 days prior to arrival period.

If you are entitled to a refund: In ALL CASES refunds of Deposits can ONLY be refunded to the SAME Credit Card used for the deposit (due to the large amount of scam attempts, unfortunately).
